Prof. Dr. Andreas Stoffers studied social sciences and economics with a focus on International Relations and completed his PhD on German – Thai relations. Andreas has many years of practical management experience in banking in the areas of sales organization, sales management, leadership of strategic projects and business development in Southeast Asia and Germany. As a long-time member of Deutsche Bank AG Vietnam Executive Board, he was responsible for successful market intelligence and opening up of new markets. Since 2014, Andreas is Professor of International Management at the International University / SDI Munich. Moreover, he is Visiting Professor at Vietnamese-German University VGU in Binh Duong and at University of Economics and Business UEB/VNU Hanoi. In December 2019, Andreas became director of Friedrich-Naumann-Foundation for Freedom, Vietnam (FNF) in Hanoi. Andreas is in particular working on international (economic) relations between the EU and ASEAN in general and between Germany and Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia in specific.

“Moving Forward - The Role of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement EVFTA for Vietnam”

“On February 12, 2020, the EU Parliament approved the Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) after a decade of negotiations. It is the most ambitious and comprehensive agreement the EU has ever concluded with a middle-income country. It raises Vietnam to the level of industrialized nations such as Japan, Korea or Singapore, with which the EU has already concluded comparable agreements. This free trade agreement should be seen as an investment by the EU in emerging Vietnam. Particularly in times of smoldering conflict between China and the U.S. and the neo-protectionism gaining ground worldwide, the EVFTA has a milestone character for free trade. It contributes significantly to the interconnection of two economic areas and has a clear peacemaking effect. For Vietnam, the EVFTA means support for its economic restart after Covid19. In his keynote, Prof. Dr. Andreas Stoffers will analyze the role of this landmark FTA for Vietnam’s economy.”
